Mini Dirt Bike - Kid Sized Off Roading Vehicles

Some kids are not satisfied with pedal power and prefer a little more punch in their transportation and feel the need for speed. For these kids, several off road dirt tracks have sprung up around the country to provide that thrill in a contained area. And the thrill is not just limited to those who count their ages in double digits, for the younger ones a mini dirt bike is the perfect option.

Mini dirt bikes come in several forms, but the two major types are classified by how they are powered. Gas bikes are classified by cc, which stands for cubic centimeter. The higher the number in front the more powerful of an engine it is. However, don’t be fooled; a 50cc model can power its rider up to 150 mph. With the increased price of gas, electric bikes are seeing an increase in the number of people looking to ride this smaller version of the dirt bike. Though not as powerful as the gas fueled variety it is more light-weight and less noisy, yet still provides plenty of power for the young bike enthusiast.

Mini Used Dirt Bikes For KidsBefore buying a mini dirt bike, though, you should take several factors into consideration. The first is price. Mini dirt bikes can easily cost a $1,000 or more new, so most people starting out will want to shop around for a used variety. There are several sources, from magazines, bike stores and bulletin boards to online shops. Going online requires a level of trust of the seller and accepting shipping costs as well to get the item to your child.

You should also consider age appropriateness. Though several pro dirt bikers have been on their bikes since the age of 4 you have to decide if your child is big and mature enough to handle a bike on his or her own. Also the rules of the state or jurisdiction you are in come into play. Some have licensing requirements. Check out the laws before you spend your money. Finally, and most importantly, is safety. You will have to enroll your child in a safety course of some sort and always teach them that mini dirt bikes, while fun, are not toys. If riding in the street is permitted make sure that they obey the rules of the road and make sure that they always go out with a helmet, gloves, and knee and elbow pads. With all that done, it should be smooth sailing.
